Timor-Leste and Portugal had bilateral meeting in Geneva

DILI, 02 march 2022 (TATOLI) – Timor-Leste’s Government through the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation (MoFAC) Adaljiza Magno had a Bilateral Meeting with the Francisco André, the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs and Cooperation of Portugal – an old friend country of the Timorese, on  march 01, 2022, in Palais des Nations, United Nations Office at Geneva (UNOG).

“The two dignitaries reiterate the lasting and close bilateral commitments between the two countries, including Portugal’s support for Timor-Leste’s candidacy to the Human Rights Council 2024-2026,” released a press statement from MNEC to Tatoli today.

During the meeting Minister Magno was accompanied by the Permanent Representative of Timor-Leste to the United Nations Office and other International Organizations in Geneva, Lurdes Bessa, Permanent Representative of Timor-Leste to the United Nations in New York, Karlito Nunes, and Advisor of the Minister,  Natalia Sarmento.

Meanwhile, Portugal is a definitive member country of the Community of Portuguese Language Countries (CPLP) where Timor-Leste is a part because of the similarity of historical and cultural values.
