DILI, 03 march 2022 (TATOLI) – The human rights issue, capacity building and the principles to continue to help each other on international affairs were some of the points that have been addressed between Timor-Leste and Brazil including Palestine during the bilateral meeting in Geneva.

Timor-Leste’s Government was represented by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation (MoFAC) Adaljiza Magno and her counterpart from Brasil, Damares Alves, Minister for Women, Family and Human Rights and Riad Al-Malki, the Palestinian Minister of Foreign Affairs. This bilateral meeting took place at the Mission of Brazil in Geneva, Switzerland, on tuesday.

“The two ministers reiterated the importance of human rights and the existing United Nations mechanisms to strengthen the promotion and protection of the rights of the people,” said a statement released by MNEC addressed to Tatoli today.

“In this regard, possible cooperation on capacity building within the scope of human rights was addressed,” added.

On the other hand, during a bilateral meeting with Palestine, a note referred: “The objective of this meeting, both of two parties addressed on how to strengthen more bilateral cooperation between Timor-Leste and Palestine”.

“The both of the two countries also report the principles to continue helping each other on international issues,” concluded.

During the meeting, Minister Magno was accompanied by the Permanent Representative of Timor-Leste to the United Nations Office and other International Organizations in Geneva, Lurdes Bessa, the Permanent Representative of Timor-Leste to the United Nations in New York, Karlito Nunes, and Advisor of the Minister, Natalia Sarmento.
