DILI, 03 march 2022 (TATOLI) – Timorese worker, Armando Abel dos Santos, and two other men died following a fishing boat that capsized in the city of Pohang, Gyeongsang province, in the north of South Korea, yesterday.
Cosme Freitas do Carmo one of the Timorese workers who saved himself from the incident said Armando Abel do Santos and the two other men were dead at the hospital after being rescued by South Korean police: “The hospital informed us that our fellow Timorese, the Indonesian man and the captain took their last breath at around 4 pm South Korean local time.”
The three men were trapped in the fishing nets when the boat capsized at around 5 am, on wednesday (02/03).
Freitas informed that the process of transferring the deceased of Armando Abel do Santos to Timor-Leste is ongoing, as the attaché and the Timorese Ambassador to South Korea have already traveled to the hospital where the victim was being treated following the incident.
“We have no information about the transfer process of the deceased, which is the responsibility of the governments of Timor-Leste and South Korea,” Cosme Freitas do Carmo, one of the Timorese workers who witnessed the accident, told TATOLI today.
The Director-General of the Secretary of State for Vocational Training and Employment (SEFOPE), Paulo Alves, said that he had not received any official report from Timor-Leste attaché and Ambassador to Korea, saying efforts would be made to transfer the deceased to Timor-Leste.
