MACLN offers scholarships to veteran’s children to access education

DILI, 09 march 2022 (TATOLI)- The Government of Timor–Leste through the Ministry for the affairs of national liberation combatants (MACLN) in collaboration with the Council of national liberation combatants (CCLN) has verified the registration of veterans’ ‘s child in each municipality including RAEOA to provide scholarships to access the education in Timor – Leste.

“Verification teams from CCLN in each municipality have registered for veterans’ children to access the education. MACLN will accept 100 children from veterans in each municipality to access the education in Timor-Leste,” The President of CCLN, Riak Leman told TATOLI via phone call this wednesday.

The President of CCLN Reak Leman, explained that the data verification process on veterans’ children has been ongoing from february 21 and will be closed on march 22. Therefore, CCLN teams in each municipality have made efforts to identify the veterans’ children to achieve the targets required by the Government of Timor-Leste.

“Data collection for veteran‘s children to get the scholarships is still ongoing, therefore to complete the data on all veteran’s children who will receive the scholarships to access the education will be announced directly by MACLN after the dateline on march 22, 2022,” Riak Leman added.

These scholarships for veteran‘s children are realized based on the approval of the Council of Ministers meeting with the stipulation of a decree law, No. 8/2009, january 15, regarding the Scholarship Attribution Regime for the children of martyrs and children of National Liberation Combatants.

This decree law is to guarantee the quality of veterans’ children who have the right to access the education in Timor – Leste.

On the other hand, Secretary of state for the affairs of national liberation combatants, Gil da Costa ‘Oan Soro’, said that the decree law would provide an opportunity for the children of martyrs and children of veterans to access the education without discrimination in Timor-Leste.

“I appreciate the Council of Ministers who have approved decree law No. 8/2009 from MCALN to provide the scholarships to the children of martyrs and children of veterans in Timor – Leste to get a proper education in developing Timor – Leste in the future,” said Gil da Costa ‘Oan Soro’.

The MACLN scholarship will be implemented for veteran‘s children from Junior High School to University. The requirements to get a scholarship from MACLN, the parents must come from a background of National liberation combatants with a level of 8-14 years who are eligible for the scholarship.

In addition, other requirements such as electoral cards, baptism certification, certificates for veterans of parents, diplomas and other complementary documents will be strictly verified by the CCLN team, after that, they will be recommended to MACLN for consideration.
