DILI, 10 march 2022 (TATOLI)- The diversification of Tourism products and Marketing Program should be developed to ensure the better development of the tourism sector in Timor-Leste.
The representative of the World Bank, Bernard Harbone, considered Timor-Leste is still very weak on tourism product diversification and marketing programs.
“It is most required for the government of Timor-Leste to integrate some points that have been demanded on assessment,” The representative of World Bank, Bernard Harbone said in his remarks at Timor-Plaza, this thursday.
The World Bank requested to the Government of Timor-Leste to develop tourism site on the assessment has been made and identified on some points must consider such as:
- Developing integrated tourism product diversification platform to impose Timor-Leste’s economy.
- The World Bank also required the government to be integrated to the servicing on tourism sectors platform. It is expecting the growth of the country’s revenue.
- Inquiry on budget allocation is available for tax expenditure for a hard and soft side. It includes mobilization to capture financial expectations to be developing the tourism sectors in Timor-Leste.
He added that the government must comply with those important points to ensure better tourism development.
Chief of Party USAID’s Tourism For All Project, Peter Semeone said the tourism sector demands common responsibility from all people. “On ensuring the tourism sectors are well developed, more participation from local sectors, development partners and government,” He said.
He stressed the government is fully responsible to provide country infrastructure and the local sectors can manage the tourism site with the support of development partners.
On the other hand, General-Coordinator for Cabinet Minister of coordinating and economic Affairs Coordination (MCAE), Guida da Conceição Baris Araújo Monteiro said the evaluation on demand is considerable on developing tourism sectors.
Due to Covid-19 Timor-Leste suffered from economic recovery. Thus, the government has identified the more developing potential sector of the tourism sector. It is needed for conserving historical sectors, Cristo Rei, Tasi Tolu, Ramelau and Matebian Mountains, and more.
Timor-Leste contributed the receipt for 150 million USD each year. It is based on the National Tourism policy “Promoting National Identity” that was approved by the council minister in 2017.
The government will reach 15,000 people to be employed in 2030. According to the estimation, the number can reach 200,000 international visitors visiting Timor-Leste.
It is recalled that in last 2014, 55.000 international tourists visited potential tourism areas across the country.
