DILI, 11 march 2022 (TATOLI) – Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) handed over 2.350 clean water pipes to Be’e Timor-Leste, E.P (BTL, E.P).
The provision of the clean water pipes aimed to fix Timor-Leste’s water supply system to ensure communities have access to safe clean water to combat Covid-19.
“Today we receive 124 rods of the 300 mm and 2.226 rods of 15 mm nominal diameter of clean water pipe from JICA. These water pipes are important for us to fix our water supply system, especially those pipes that had been damaged during the april-4 flash flood,” Carlos Peloi dos Reis, the President of BTL, E.P told Tatoli, in Dili, today.
He said BTL also received water treatment chemicals to be used for water disinfection: “JICA will also support us with water distribution pumps. These pumps would probably arrive in the very near future.”
The Chief Representative of Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) in Timor-Leste, Goto Ko, revealed that JICA would continue its cooperation with BTL, E.P to fix the water supply systems to improve access to safe drinking water.

“These pipes are given to BTL to replace and fix the damaged water supply systems. In addition, we also provide water treatment chemicals to improve water quality,” Goto Ko said.
JICA and BTL signed an agreement to support the quality of the water supply system on august 17, last year.
Previously, Vice-President of BTL Gustavo Cruz revealed that around 17.000 people in the capital Dili have access to clean water.
