Govt, ADB discuss cooperation priorities
DILI, 8 September 2026 (TATOLI) — Minister of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers Agio Pereira held talks with ADB’s new representative in Timor-Leste, Artur Andrysiak, at the Government Palace in Dili on Tuesday.
During the meeting, Minister Pereira and Andrysiak discussed national development priorities, economic diversification and preparations for the country’s planned ASEAN chairmanship in 2029.
Pereira highlighted economic diversification as a key priority of the IX Constitutional Government.
He also outlined challenges and opportunities arising from Timor-Leste’s integration into ASEAN and preparations to host regional meetings and activities in 2029.
The two sides also discussed the need to complete ongoing works at Presidente Nicolau Lobato International Airport on schedule.
They stressed the importance of strengthening the country’s infrastructure and capacity to accommodate the meetings, officials and delegations expected to visit Timor-Leste during its ASEAN chairmanship.
Other priorities discussed included connectivity and infrastructure, development of the South Coast, the Greater Sunrise project, education and vocational training.
Andrysiak reaffirmed the ADB’s readiness to continue supporting Timor-Leste through technical and financial assistance, according to the Government.
The potential areas of support include infrastructure and transport, economic diversification, education, health and preparations for the ASEAN chairmanship.
The meeting also reviewed ADB-supported projects already under way in Timor-Leste, including initiatives focused on economic recovery, climate resilience, infrastructure and basic services, connectivity and economic diversification.
Both sides agreed to maintain close coordination to identify priority areas and further strengthen cooperation between the Government and the ADB.
