WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus bestowed with The Collar of the Order of Timor-Leste
DÍLI, 08 September 2026 (TATOLI) – The President of the Republic, José Ramos-Horta bestowed the Collar of the Order of Timor-Leste upon Director-General of the World Health Organization, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus.
The conferment ceremony took place during a gala dinner held at the Palacio Nobre in Lahane, as part of the 79th session of the WHO Regional Committee.
The ceremony underscored Timor-Leste’s deep commitment to global partnership and the shared values of health, dignity, and human solidarity.
Under the Decree of the President of the Republic No.103/2026, President Ramos-Horta conferred the Collar of the order of Timor-Leste upon Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, in recognition of his distinguished professional and institutional career and his significant role, as Director-General of the World Health Organization, in leading international efforts to promote global health, prevent and respond to public health emergencies, strengthen health systems and foster international cooperation.
Tedros’ dedication has benefited numerous people over the years, including Timorese citizens and represents a significant contribution to humanity deserving of state recognition.
“Dr Tedros, Timor-Leste is honoured to confer upon you the Collar of Order of Timor-Leste, in recognition of your leadership of the World Health Organization, your contribution to global health and your service to humanity. Your leadership through some of the gravest health emergencies of our time, your commitment to stronger health systems and your efforts to bring countries together have benefited people across the world, including the people of Timor-Leste,” said President Ramos-Horta in his address.
President Ramos-Horta expressed his hope that these awards would inspire continued international cooperation in building a healthier and equitable world for all.
