To increase the fares of public transportation must base on the GVTL‘s dispatch

DILI, 06 april 2022 (TATOLI) –The Director of the National Department of Land Transportation (DNTT), António da Costa, said that, to increase the public transportation ‘s fares, must base on the Government of Timor-Leste (GVTL)’s dispatch through the decree law of the Ministry of transport and telecommunications (MTC).

“DNTT calls the owners of public transportation and drivers, not to increase the fares, because MTC still has not issued any dispatch,” said the Director of DNTT when interviewed by the journalist of TATOLI News Agency in DNTT ‘s office Balide Dili this wednesday.

“We know that, the price of fuel oil and basic necessities has increased in Timor–Leste, but we do not increase the public transport ‘s fares based on our wishes, because the increasing prices of fuel and oil is not only happened in Timor–Leste but also happened in the world,” the executive added.

DNTT has not received some reports from users of public transportation services, but if there are any complaints from passengers, DNTT will follow up together with the Timor- Leste National Police (PNTL), traffic unit, to urge the owners and drivers of public transportation, in order that, not to increase the public t transportation ‘s fares because GVTL is still not issued the new dispatch.

“I have informed the public transport ‘s strike (Bus) in Baucau, and also public transport (Mikrolet) in Dili which has increased its fares, to the Minister of Transport and Telecommunications to overcome this problem, but the Minister of MTC still not made a decision and still accompanying the price of fuel which continues to increase in the world. Timor-Leste does not deserve to increase the price of public transportation fares, because of that, MTC urges all public transportation to use   the prior dispatch No. 226 /V/2015/GVMOPT/MOPTC,” he said.

Based on the dispatch No. 226 /V/2015/GVMOPT/MOPTC, the students who use the transportation services (Mikrolet) in Dili must pay USD $ 0.15 cents and normal passengers are required to pay USD $ 0.25 cents.

Public transportation services (Bus/ Anguna) from Manatuto – Dili USD $ 2.00, Baucau – Dili $ 4.00, Lospalos – Dili $ 8.00, Vikeke – Dili $ 8.00, Aileu – Dili $ 2.00, Same – Dili $ 9.00, Ainaro – Dili $ 8.00, Suai – Dili $12.00, Ermera -Dili $3.00 Liquiça – Dili $2.00 and Maliana – Dili $6.00.

“All public transportation‘s fares must base on the dispatch No. 226 /V/2015/GVMOPT/MOPTC and if they do not comply with this regulation, DNTT and PNTL (Traffic unit) will take action to terminate their transportation business license and will be required to pay fined to DNTT,” the Director of DNTT António da Costa concluded.
