Govt and Holy See strengthen bilateral relations

DILI, 25 april 2022 (TATOLI) – Minister of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, Fidelis Manuel Leite Magalhães paid a courtesy visit to the Representative of the Holy See in Timor-Leste to strengthen the bilateral ties of Timor-Leste with the Holy See.

“On behalf of the Eight Constitutional Government, today, I have a courtesy meeting with the Chargé D’Affaires of the Apostolic Nunciature, Monsignor Marco Sprizzi to strengthen our diplomatic relations with the Holy See,” Magalhães told reporters after the meeting with Sprizzi at his office, in Dili, today.

At the same place, Sprizzi also said that the meeting was important to accomplish the bilateral relations between Timor-Leste and the Holly See.

“This meeting is important to cultivate and give more provisions to our bilateral relations. This meeting is also to flower a fruitful relationship between the two countries for the common good of the people,” Sprizzi said.

He emphasized that the Holy See has no commercial, political, or military interest: “Our only interest is for the common good of the people.”

Concerning The visit of Pope Francis to Timor-Leste, Sprizzi revealed that the official date hadn’t been confirmed.

“We have yet to know regarding the date of the visit of the Pope to Timor-Leste. So, this year or next year, we don’t know,” he added.

Sprizzi reiterated that Pope Francis would visit Timor-Leste in the future.
