DILI, 25 april 2022 (TATOLI) – The Representative of the Holy See in Timor-Leste expressed his appreciation to the government of Timor-Leste for successfully realizing the 2022 Presidential Election democratically and peacefully.
“We are very happy with Timor-Leste 2022 Presidential Election which was realized in a very democratic and peaceful way,” Chargé D’Affaires of the Apostolic Nunciature, Monsignor Marco Sprizzi told reporters at his office, in Dili, today.
He said the Holy See had never been favorable to one candidate or the other candidate: “As the bishop has said both candidates are Catholics and we express our great appreciation for both of them.”
“We hope that in the future and the following months the political life and the public institutions in Timor-Leste would continue to function efficiently for the service of the people,” he said.
He stressed that Timor-Leste and the Holy See have already had strong diplomatic relations, saying therefore the Holy See would commit to keeping its ties with Timor-Leste, especially with the newly elected President of the Republic, Jose Ramos Horta as it did with the incumbent Francisco Guterres ‘Lu Olo’.
“Next month, the commemoration of the 20th anniversary of Timor-Leste Restoration Day would mark the 20th anniversary of our diplomatic relations. And we will continue flowering this relation in the same spirit, and the Holy See is always there to support the government of Timor-Leste to have better development,” Sprizzi said.
