KOICA provides SDP projects to support TL achieving SDP 2015-2030

DILI, 27 april, 2022 (TATOLI)- Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) provided a Social Development Program (SDP) to help the Government of Timor-Leste achieves Strategy Development Plan (SDP)for 2015 to 2030

Country Director of KOICA, Eunju Cha said that KOICA is mainly implementing three programs which are composed of the Social Development Sector (SDP), Economy Development Sector (EDS), and Infrastructure Development Sector (IDP).

“SDP has three sub-sectors program composed of Education, Youth Development, Health focus on Infectious Disease and Gender Employment,” Country Director of KOICA, Eunju Cha told TATOLI Agency, in KOICA’s meeting room, Timor Plaza, friday.

Education, Youth Development (EYD) program focused on sports for children’s development project in Timor-Leste, aims to promote child participation in sports activities and the establishment of the sports system in Dili.

The program will be implemented in Dili for the five years duration of the program starting from 2020 to 2024 with a total budget of US$6.5 million that will be a benefit for children that participate in football class and football coaches in Dili Timor-Leste.

Another program under the Education, Youth Development (EYD) program is ‘SAY NO to 5S’ the program focuses on Starvation, Soil-transmitted Helminthiasis, Skindisease, Smoking, and Sugary/ Alcoholic drink) in School.

‘SAY NO to 5S’ is a new program implemented in Baucau, Bobonaro, and Manufahi with a total budget of US$6.2 million, that will be benefited 145,445 male students and 146,179 female students under the school health program and 9,000 in three municipalities under school food program.

The purpose ‘SAY NO to 5S’ program:

1. School-age children are free of priority diseases and major risk factors including malnutrition or wasting

 1.1. Primary health care package provided to all primary and pre-secondary schools by skilled health staff

 1.2. Effective education on health and nutrition to all primary and pre-secondary schools children provided through a holistic approach

2. Schools are upgraded to provide a safe and healthy environment as well as safe and nutritious schools meals

 2.1. Improved schools policy and school certification system established for school safety and healthy school environment

 2.2. Improve kitchen facilities and hygiene cooking system to provide quality and safe schools meals at Baucau, Bobonaro, and Manufahi

2.3. Introduce fortified rice to schools meals and ensured a sustainable supply chain and quality fortified rice to all targeted schools at Baucaum Bobonaro and Manufahi.

Health Infectious Disease program focuses on ‘Capacity building on community-based tuberculosis Diagnosis management (CBCBTDM) projects in Timor-Leste and Strengthening Preparedness and response to infectious disease in Timor-Leste (SPRIDTL).

The CBCBTDM project is implemented in Dili, Ermera, Bobonaro, Covalima, and Baucau, the program is the six years duration program, starting from 2019 to 2024 with a total budget of US$ 6 million to be benefited up to 153,270 people screened.

The purpose of this project is to increase the case detection rate of TB and strengthen the capacity of case management.

Another Program is SPRIDTL, the program is a four years program implemented nationwide with a total budget of US$6 million to benefit 1000 health workers and all Timorese People.

The purpose of the SPRIDTL program:

  1. Priority communicable disease, events, and outbreaks timely detected reported and responded to at all levels
  2. In-Country expertise in detecting, reporting, and responding to priority, communicable diseases, events, and outbreaks developed and maintained
  3. HAIs prevented in priority facilities by a well-established IPC program.

Gender and Peace Sector Program, focus on ‘Hamutuk ba igualidade/Together for the equality and Digitalization of CHEGA National For Conflict Reconciliation and Peace Building in Timor-Leste projects.

Together the Equality project was implemented in Baucau, Covalima, Dili, and Oe-Cusse Ambeno between 2020 and 2024 with a total budget of US$7.3 million to be benefited by 1.2 M population, particularly young women, boys, girls, and men both in and out of school (targeting ages 10-25).

The Purpose of the Together for the Equality project: To empower women and girls in Timor-Leste to enjoy their right to live free of sexual harassment and other forms of violence against women and girls in public and private spaces and can access quality essential services.

Digitalization of CHEGA National Center For Conflict Reconciliation and Peace Building in Timor Leste project implemented Nationwide, during four years starting from 2020-2024 with the total budget of 5 million, to be benefited by 155,832 students at 495 schools in Timor-Leste.

The purpose of this project: is to strengthen the national accountability and capacity to build the country’s better future in peace, justice, and prosperity and the country to contribute to Conflict Reconciliation and Peacebuilding in the Region and beyond by learning from the past 25 years of violations of human rights and injustice during the political conflict (1974-1999.
