São Paulo Foundation to implement water conservation project in Dare

DILI, 27 april 2022 (TATOLI) – The São Paulo Foundation of the Diocese of Dili (FSPDD) will implement a project of tree plantation for water conservation, in Dare, Dili.

“The implementation of the project aims to ensure the sustainability of water availability in the future. The foundation currently preparing organic fertilizer and seeds to create a plant nursery in Dare for producing more plants,” FSPDD’s Coordinator, Augusto Martins, told TATOLI, in Lecidere, Dili.

Martins revealed that 12.2 hectares had been successfully planted with around 15.009 trees in the past three years due to a cooperation between FSPDD and NGO Raibia.

The National Directorate of the Reforestation of the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries (MAP) also supported the FSPDD with more than 2.000 trees.

“We planted casuarinas, tamarind, cacao, mangosteen, oranges, rambutan, and so on” he said.

Martins informed that 821 trees were withered due to the lack of intensive care by the communities.

The project was realized with the financial support given by the European Union (EU), totaling €625.000 or US$735.000: “And 10% of this budget came from FSPDD,” he said.
