DILI, 28 may 2022 (TATOLI) – The President Republic (PR) of Timor – Leste, José Ramos Horta, asked developed countries to support funds to Timor – Leste including the other less developed countries to handle the climate change in the world.
“Recently climate change is happened due to 100 or 200 years ago, many developing countries had been implemented the revolution industrial, which destroyed the world‘s environment and also provoke the climate change. I, therefore, ask the developing countries to provide financial support to Timor – Leste to conduct the mitigation by planting trees,” President Horta, told reporters on Europe DaY on friday, 27 may at Timor – Plaza, Dili.
President Horta added that tackling climate change by planting trees in Timor – Leste is not sufficient since the world is now, facing the industrialization problem.
“Tackling climate change will not be handled in five or ten years but it needs to take 30 years and it needs good policies because, in this modern world, many countries are producing industrialization, including electricity that, still uses oil and gas with carbon dioxide called CO2 emissions, such as car, ship, and airplane factories and other factories which still dispose of CO2 waste on land and sea, thus it can destroy the environment and biodiversity in the world,” Horta Concluded.
