DILI, 21 june 2022 (TATOLI)– The President of the Republic of Timor-Leste, José Ramos Horta, calls on g7+ organizations to defend reconciliation.

President Horta’s statement was said during his visits to the office of the Secretariat of the Intergovernmental Organization of Conflict-Affected Countries (g7+), at the Palance of Government Dili, on Monday.

“I need g7+’s support during my mandate as the President of the Republic to promote reconciliation to find a good solution for those Timorese people who are still living in the West Timor. Many of us have forgotten about them, but I have never forgotten them since my first mandate. Now, I wish to solve this problem because many of them want to return to our country,” Horta said.

Horta was pleased with the visit of the g7+, of which Timor-Leste is a founder with the leadership of the nation’s charismatic leader Kay Rala Xanana Gusmão, and the Former Minister of Finance, Emilia Pires.

“The g7+, established in 2010, is an intergovernmental voluntary organization bringing together countries that are either facing active conflict or have recent experience of conflict and fragility. It has 20 member countries from Asia, the Pacific, Africa, and the Caribbean with a combined population of 260 million,”

Horta explained that Xanana Gusmão demonstrated his vision to unite all Fragile countries that have a common experience to maintain a common agenda with international partners.

“Therefore as head of state, and special envoy of the G7+ appreciates the visit of the g7+, even though it has been many years that I have not contributed directly to g7+, but Timor Leste is part of the g7+ and participates in every meeting organized by g7+,”

Habib Mayar, in the same place, updated the progress of the g7+ work and shared information about member countries.

“I am honored by the visit of the President of the Republic to the g7+ office. This is an important moment to receive ideas and opinions from the President regarding the geopolitical situation happening in the world. This visit is also to hear about President Horta’s ability as a special envoy for the g7+ to share strategic ideas to help g7+ member countries that are currently facing conflict, fragility, and humanitarian crises,”

Previously in the last three years, at the fifth meeting of the g7+ held in Lisbon on June 19, the g7+ group collectively nominated José Ramos Horta as the special envoy of the g7+.

The meeting was attended by relevant agencies from the Government and vocal points from g7+ member countries.
