DILI, 01 july 2022 (TATOLI) – Timor-Leste’s delegation from the Ministry of Petroleum and Minerals (MoPM) and the National Authority for Petroleum and Minerals (ANPM) in Australia this week promoting the mining opportunities to Australian Mining Companies.

Taking the opportunity, the head of the delegation, minister Víctor da Conceição Soares, accompanied by Timor-Leste’s Ambassador to Australia, Inês Almeida, and ANPM’s president Florentino Soares Ferreira met with his Australian counterpart Madeleine King to reaffirm Timor-Leste’s position that Greater Sunrise must be developed in Timor-Leste.

Timor-Leste sees the economic importance of developing Greater Sunrise in Timor-Leste, therefore, during the meeting, Timor-Leste reaffirmed its commitment to developing Greater Sunrise in onshore Timor-Leste (Timor-Leste LNG – TLNG).

The delegation also conveyed to Minister King that the feasibility studies that have been rigorously undertaken from the early days until now confirmed the fundamental reasons to develop Greater Sunrise in onshore Timor-Leste. Timor-Leste has access to those international financial agencies that are willing to finance the project.

In addition, Timor-Leste’s national oil company TIMOR GAP, E.P. who is the major shareholder of the project has also secured some potential buyers in the region and beyond – hence, Timor-Leste sees that Greater Sunrise Development in Timor-Leste is a viable option and that is the sole position of Timor-Leste to proceed with the project.

Timor-Leste affirmed that both technical and commercial have demonstrated that Greater Sunrise Development in Timor-Leste is viable.

The Australian Minister of Resources noted Timor-Leste’s government position and encourage a continuous collaboration between parties involved.

Minister King promised to pass on the position of Timor-Leste to her other colleagues in Australia.
