DILI, 04 july 2022 (TATOLI) – The Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Timor-Leste, Julião da Silva, said the ASEAN Fact-Finding Mission on the ASEAN Social-Cultural Community (ASCC) has arrived in Dili today to assess Timor-Leste’s technical readiness for acceding to ASEAN.
“Today The advance team of the Fact-Finding Mission” ASEAN from Cambodia has arrived in Timor-Leste, to conduct an assessment on the ASCC pillar and to evaluate Timor-Leste’s readiness to become a member of ASEAN,” Vice-Minister, da Silva told the media at the palace of Government today.
da Silva said, last week the MoFAC has coordinated with the line of Ministries to cooperate when the member of ASEAN will conduct the assessment in Timor-Leste.
“This is the last visit from the ASEAN’ Fact-Finding Mission’ and Timor-Leste is waiting for a clear outcome and a positive decision from the ASEAN Member States on the accession of Timor-Leste to ASEAN”
According to Vice Minister, da Silva, currently, Timor-Leste is in a good situation and condition compared to other countries, however saying, this will depend on the evaluation from the ASEAN.
The team from ASEAN will conduct the assessment for three days starting from July 6 to July 8, 2022.
