EU Ambassador bid farewell to Prime Minister, Taur Matan Ruak

DILI, 5 july 2022 (TATOLI)– European Union (EU) Ambassador Andrew Jacobs bid farewell to Prime Minister Taur Matan Ruak on Monday, for ending his mission as a European Union diplomat in Timor-Leste.

I visited the Prime Minister today, to inform him about the end of my mission as EU Ambassador in Timor-Leste. I was assigned for three years mission in Timor-Leste,” The Ambassador of the European Union (EU) told reports at the government palace after meeting with Prime Minister, Taur Matan Ruak.

Ambassador Jacob also said that the meeting was also focused on discussing strengthening the cooperative relationship between the two countries, Timor-Leste and the European Union.

”We discussed the ongoing cooperation between the European Union and Timor-Leste that aimed at alleviating poverty in rural communities,” he stressed.

Jacobs stressed that the EU will continue to work closely with the government of Timor-Leste and the private sector, especially focusing on improving investment mechanisms and adopting foreign mechanisms, and owning investments in the country.

Mr. Jacob said that during his 3-year mission, he prioritized cooperation in various fields, including human rights, the health sector which focused on COVID-19, and the democratic system.

“I am happy to see that the Timor-Leste government has a good management system in preventing COVID-19,” he concluded
