DILI, 13 july, 2022 (TATOLI)- FONTIL and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Timor-Leste (CoCITL) provide observation and recommendation on Labor Laws and business training to the delegation of the World Trade Organization (WTO) led by Rui Macieira in Timor-Leste.
The Executive Director of FONTIL, Valentim Da Costa Pinto said that today’s meeting with World Trade Organization (WTO) to share the observations and recommendations focusing on labor rules and business management training.
“FONTIL observed that WTO’s country members in regional and international still involved inequality and exploration against labor‘s right which affected to the human right and democracy,’’ The Executive Director of FONTIL, Valentim Da Costa Pinto told reports at Suai room, this Wednesday.
He added that Timor-Leste is strongly promoting Timor-Leste’s decree-law No.4/2012 and adapted to the Principle of Equality for the right of male and female workers.
FONTIL also observed that there are lots of challenges facing Timor-Leste that needs to be solved before taking part as a country member of WTO.
“The challenges include basic infrastructure, roads, and business facilities, that need to develop to allow national and international companies to perform their business operations. In addition to the standard price for local products and quality of local products, also the main problem that the country has not been solved including the Unemployment issue in Timor-Leste. Based on these problems Timor-Leste needs to do more efforts to become a member of WTO,”
Civil Society will continue to demand the WTO secretariat including Govt relevant ministries be aware of and reflect on Timor-Leste’s real situation.
At the same place, the President of CCITL, Oscar Lima recommended to the WTO secretariat to focus on facilitating high-level business training on business management, finance, and loans to Timorese entrepreneurs, saying: “It will help Timor-Leste private entrepreneurs financially to invest in productive business sectors,”
At the same place the ambassador of WTO, Rui Macieira welcomes all the recommendations from the CCITL saying will be discussed within the board and even with the government of Timor-Leste.
“This visit to Timor-Leste intending to listen from all parts the requirements, suggestions, and recommendation and we have to take importance from all inquiries and recommendations to engage with all the programs of WTO, to ensure Timor-Leste accession to WTO’’ He concluded
So far Timor-Leste applied for the WTO since 2015.
