CITL and Government discuss the progress of implementing the school feeding program

DILI, 14 july 2022 (TATOLI) – CARE International in Timor-Leste held a seminar to discuss the progress of implementing the School feeding program in four municipalities.

Director of CARE International Timor-Leste, Peter Goodfellow stated that the HATUTAN Program was created in 2018 to support the implementation of the School feeding program for five years (from 2019 to 2024) with a value of US$ 26 million.

“HATUTAN’s Education and Nutrition Program aims to improve children’s literacy, health, and nutrition. CARE International works in partnership with 453 schools in the municipalities of Ermera, Liquiçá, Ainaro, and Manatuto”, said Peter Goodfellow, said at the Hotel Novo Turismo, Dili.

According to Mr. Goodfellow, the international organization has distributed 3,098 metric tons of food benefiting 89,987 students.

The Deputy Minister of State Administration, Lino Torrezão, also mentioned the need for CARE International’s contribution to the implementation of School Meals.

“The government has allocated US$15 million in the 2022 State Revenue and Expenditure Budget (OGE) for the School feeding program, but the amount has not met the target,” he said.

So far the meeting was attended by Deputy Minister of State Administration, Lino Torrezão, representatives from the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports (MEJD), international partners, as well as municipality administrators.
