JAKARTA, 18 july 2022 (TATOLI) – Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation of Timor-Leste, Adaljiza Magno, had a courtesy meeting with her Indonesian counterpart Retno Marsudi on the margins of the State Visit of the President of the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste to the Republic of Indonesia.

Apart from the discussion on the preparations for the Timor-Leste Head of State visit at the Bogor Palace on July 19, 2022, Both digitaries shared ideas on bilateral issues to strengthen the ties between both countries.

Timor-Leste and Indonesia are committed to supporting each other on international issues and will reinforce cooperation for economic development, particularly in the investment sector.

Both parties have also agreed to review the agreements that have been signed by both parties and seek the potential for future cooperation.

On Multilateral and Regional, Both sides share their ideas on the importance of visibility and activeness in the multilateral arena by highlighting issues regarding the ASEAN and Timor-Leste accession Processes, political security development in the region, and world solidarity, the common principles and democratic values, and international humanitarian issues.

In this regard, Minister Magno reiterated “the Importance of establishing strong relationships, a productive cooperation with our neighbors and friends will contribute positively to the stability and peace of the region”

Related to the Application to the Human Rights Council for the Period of 2024-2026, Minister Magno reaffirmed that Timor-Leste won’t compete with Indonesia conversely, and wish to serve together with Indonesia to bring something new to the Human Rights Council.

Timor-Leste is looking forward to furthering strong cooperation with Indonesia on its commitment to support each other’s candidature in various multilateral organizations.

During the meeting, Minister Magno was accompanied by the Ambassador of the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste to Indonesia Filomeno Aleixo da Cruz, and Nunu Alves, National Director for Southeast Asia and Oceania.
