DILI, 19 july 2022 (TATOLI)– Commission G of the National Parliament recommends to the government allocate a sufficient budget for preserving and protecting sacred houses across the country.

The President of the Commission, Antonio Verdial said that the Parliament National is committed to approving every budget proposal for preserving the sacred house. However, Verdial also acknowledged that the National Parliament had not supervised all the sacred houses across the country.

“The National Parliament considers the sacred house to be a cultural heritage that represents the identity of the Timorese people that must be protected and preserved, therefore the government has the responsibility to provide a budget to preserve the sacred house in Timor-Leste. Commission G, has not conducted an oversight in the field of culture, but members of Commission G have invited the Minister of Education, Youth, and Sports to the Parliament to do the straight imploration on this issue,” Antonio Verdial told Tatoli at the National Parliament, Monday. “

At one point in this, Verdial promised that members of Commission G would conduct oversight by the end of September 2022.

“The Commission will examine the activities of the secretary of state for arts and culture to identify the progress of the program implementation in the cultural field, during the eight constitutional governments period, after resuming work on September 15, 2022,”

Verdial also emphasized that PN members have an important role in supervision and control in the field.

“Members of parliament have three important roles, namely political decision-making, law-making, and oversight. Therefore, it is important for Commission G to conduct oversight of the implemented projects,” he said.

So far the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Culture (MoHESC) has set up 1.215876 USD to preserve the sacred house and protect the cultural heritage.
