FFM–AEC appreciates the progress of the energy sector in Timor – Leste

DILI, 20 july 2022 (TATOLI) – The ASEAN Fact-Finding Mission (FFM) on the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) commended the significant progress of Timor-Leste’s energy sector development, saying, therefore, delegates would ask Timor-Leste to share experiences with other ASEAN members in the energy sector.

MTCI Deputy Minister, Domingos Lopes Antunes told the media following the statement of ASEAN FFM-AEC a delete during a meeting with the delegation from Timor-Leste held at the Ministry of Finance Aitarak laran Dili, yesterday.

“FFM-AEC appreciates the progress of Timor-Leste’s energy sector, therefore they will request the Government of Timor-Leste to send energy experts to share the energy sector with several ASEAN member countries in the future and we welcome this request especially the Government’s Ministry of Public Works (MoPW),” Deputy Minister of MTCI, Domingos Antunes Lopes, told TATOLI at the Ministry of Finance Aitarak – Laran, Wednesday.

According to Lopes, the AEC pillar delegation highlighted that the progress of the energy sector has undergone significant changes because almost people of Timor Leste have access to electricity throughout the country and are expected to improve other sectors, especially the economic industry to increase economic growth in Timor Leste.

Lopes explained that good energy management will attract more foreign investors, especially ASEAN investors to invest in Timor-Leste, in various sectors including hotels, fisheries, livestock, and other sectors that can contribute to the country’s economic growth.

“They are committed to presenting the progress of our energy and other sectors at the ASEAN Summit for consideration. We hope that our progress and achievements will be taken into consideration for Timor-Leste to become the 11th ASEAN member in 2023,” he said.
