DILI, 20 july 2022 (TATOLI)—Australian company Thomas Foods International (TFI), visited the East Timor Development Agency (EDTA) training center to see the training method and the quality of  Human Resources (HR) in EDTA training center.

The Director General of ETDA, Januário Neto Mok considered the visit important to monitor human resources and see the possibility of establishing cooperation between EDTA and TFI to increase human resource capacity through training.

“TFI is a company engaged in the meat industry. They wish to see the facilities provided by EDTA during the training,” Director Januário told Tatoli at the ETDA office, Tuesday.

At the same time, Mok hopes EDTA and TFI will have more cooperation, especially the training cooperation to increase the knowledge of participants in the tourism and hospitality, and industrial sectors to be able to work in Australia.

“Currently ETDA offers tourism and hospitality training to more than 650 Timorese, therefore we hope that both EDTA and TFI will establish more training cooperation,” he said.

Timor-Leste’s Ambassador to Australia, Inês Almeida, said TFI is a meat industry company that produces meat and exports overseas but TFI also provides training for workers, especially in the technology sector, information, mechanics, and electricity because industrial work processes are carried out by sophisticated machines.

“This is their first time in the TL and TFI show its interest to hire Timorese workers to work for their company. So I think it’s important for them to come to the TL and see for themselves what Timor-Leste can do for them besides providing human resources to work in Australia,”

Ambassador Almeida said the TFI company had discussed with TL TradeInvest the possibility of opening a meat industry in Timor-Leste.

“In the discussion, TFI companies want to ensure the convenience of being able to set up their industrial companies in the TL, including electricity, clean water, network connections, and land for industry, because industry works 24 hours to produce meat so it is necessary to ensure these things are effective,” he said.

During the visit, TFI asked EDTA and other training centers to provide more human resources to work in Australia but their workers must have to learn Australian culture and work disciplines.
