DILI, 22 july 2022 (TATOLI) – Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) and Muhammadiyah thank the President of the Republic José Ramos Horta for being nominated by the Head of State for the Nobel Peace Prize.
President Horta considered Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) and Muhammadiyah to be the two major Islamic non-governmental organizations in Indonesia that played an important role in promoting peace.
The Chairman of the Executive Council of Nahdlatul Ulama (NU), Kyai Haji Yahya Cholil Staquf, nicknamed Gus Yahya thanked President Horta for nominating NU, and Muhammadiyah for the Nobel Peace Prize.
Gus Yahya expressed his appreciation when receiving President Horta during a friendly visit at the Nahdlatul Ulama (PBNU) Executive Building, Jakarta, wednesday.
He considered the visit crucial to strengthen the relationship between NU and Timor-Leste for the promotion of Human Fraternity.
“We hope that President Horta’s visit will strengthen our efforts to promote peace across the globe,” Gus Yahya said.
President Horta and NU also discussed the initiative of nominating NU as the permanent member of the UNESCO and the member of the Higher Committee of Human Fraternity.
“I would like to thank you very much for the initiative of nominating us for the Nobel Peace Prize,” Gus Yahya thanked Horta.
