DILI, 29 july 2022 (TATOLI) – The President of the National Parliament, Aniceto Guterres agreed and supported President Horta’s commitment to have a deeper reconciliation with the Timorese people who are still living in West Timor after leaving Timor-Leste in 1999.
Horta is always committed to adhering to the Document for Human Fraternity for World Peace and Living Together.
Horta’s commitment to have a deeper reconciliation between the Timorese people and those who are still living in exile in West Timor came after all parliamentarians agreed to the adoption of the Document on Human Fraternity for World Peace and Living Together on may 12.
Guterres said Timor-Leste is the first country in the world to adopt The Human Fraternity document, a document promoting peace and harmony between Christians and Muslims that has been endorsed by both Pope Francis and Ahmed el-Tayyeb, the grand imam of Al-Azhar.
“Parliament agreed to the adoption of the document as it would be a great reference to resolve our situation with the Timorese people living in West Timor with peace, and reconciliation,” Guterres said after meeting President Horta at the Presidential Palace, on thursday.
During the meeting, Guterres also informed Horta about the Timorese Parliamentarians’ visit to Indonesia on 22-23 august.
He said President Horta asked Timorese Parliamentarians to request their Indonesian counterparts during their trip to Indonesia to adopt the Human Fraternity document.
“Indonesian has its own problem as we do in Timor-Leste. So, the Human Fraternity document is important to promote peace and stability through reconciliation among the people,” said Guterres.
At the meeting, Horta also informed Guterres about his one-week State visit to the Republic of Indonesia, where he met with his Indonesian counterpart Joko Widodo, and Indonesian politicians.
In addition, during his State visit to Indonesia, President Horta also met with several leaders of the Pro-Integration group, including Basilio dias de Araujo, Francisco Xavier Lopes da Cruz, and Eurico da Costa.
President and these pro-integration leaders talked about the Human Fraternity document and discussed the possibility of returning those Timorese people lining in West Timor back to Timor-Leste.
