DILI, 06 august 2022 (TATOLI) – Alexander Money Transfer (AMT), a Timorese local money transfer company carried out training on Anti-Money laundering for its partners from municipalities.
The training aimed to improve the knowledge and skills of the AMT’s partners to avoid money laundering when dealing with clients in transferring money.
Six participants from municipalities attended the one-day training – Pedro da Silva, Eurico Barros, and Filomeno Amaral from Covalima municipality, Belina Pinto from Dili, Rui Pinto from Baucau, and Rufino Trindade from Manatuto muncipality.
The six partners will sign Money Transfer Agreement with ATM to carry out money transfer services in their municipalities.
“This training is important to improve the skills of our partners, especially in providing fast and safe money transfer services to the communities in the municipalities,” AMT’s Director, Jose Alexander Guterres told reporters in Fatuhada, Dili, today.
He said AMT was established in 2018 and began its money transfer operation in 2019: “Currently AMT has more than 600 clients who regularly transfer money via AMT.
“We plan to establish our branches in the United Kingdom and other countries like Australia and South Korea to facilitate our Timorese fellas living and working in these countries to send money back home in a safe and fast way,” said Guterres.
He said the money transfer service of the AMT is directly controlled by the Timor-Leste’s Central Bank (BCTL).
“Our clients only need to present their identification card like passport, electoral card, and citizen card for transferring money to families, friends, etc,” Guterres added.
At the same place, Benjamin Santos from the Information Cooperation Unit of the BCTL congratulated AMT for establishing a local money transfer like AMT.
“I praised your initiative and hard work in establishing this money transfer company. Personally, I would like to congratulate AMT for carrying out such important training to prevent money laundering in the country,” he said.
