INDMO organizes two-day conferences on Technical and Vocational Education and Training

DILI, 15 august 2022 (TATOLI)– The Government of Timor-Leste through Mão de Obra National Development (INDMO) organized a two-day conference on Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) activities to support and improve quality of training centers.

Minister of Economy Affairs and Coordination, Joaquim Amaral said the second international conference was aimed at improving the technical quality of Vocational training.

“This conference activity is held to improve the quality and inclusive training center. Timor-Leste is hosting this conference to get some knowledge sharing from TETV member countries” Minister of Economic Affairs and Coordination, Joaquim Amaral told reporters at the OKA Rudal hall in Hudi Laran, this Monday.

He said that after Timor-Leste was hit by a pandemic the situation has changed, mainly affecting the human and economic development of the country adding that many activities are carried out online, Therefore, on this occasion, all youth training centers adapted to the real situation happening in this country.

Amaral considered this two-day conference to guide Timor-Leste to focus on technology, saying the technology is an important platform in the global situation to share knowledge and information to contribute to human development in Timor-Leste.

Director of INDMO, Isabel Fernandes De Lima said the conference was held to support the government in the country’s development programs, especially to ensure good quality youth training centers and help Timor-Leste to join ASEAN.

De Lima said that this activity was attended by ASEAN, Regional and International countries, and this conference consisted of 20 international keynote speakers and 14 keynote speakers, therefore Timor-Leste needs to gain more knowledge about human development at this international conference.

Secretary of State for Vocational Training and Employment (SoSVTE), Alarico do Rosario considers this conference to help the government provide human qualifications to respond to national and international market demands.

“There are 27 youth training centers throughout the country that have been accredited. It is the government’s policy to work closely with development partners as well as the private sector to respond to national and international market demands.”

SEFOPE takes responsibility for ensuring that the training sector must have qualified human resources and even complete teaching materials.

“At this international conference, we can learn some human development methods from other countries. This conference is an opportunity for Timor-Leste to learn more about the qualification method for human development in Timor-Leste,” he concluded.

Based on INDMO data, 93 training centers have obtained operational permits and 27 training centers have received accreditation certificates.

These training centers carry out various training activities consisting of, tourism, hospitality, restaurants, automotive, agriculture, finance and administration, Information and Technology (IT), and others.

Development Partners are ILO, UNESCO, SEAMEO, ASEAN, EQAP, APACC, JICA, APTC, ADB, UNDP, and others while the 14 member governments consist of MCAE, MoEYS, MESCC, SoSVTE, SEPC, SoSGE, ANETL, TIC, and another.
