DILI, 24 august 2022 (TATOLI)- Care International Timor-Leste (CITL) and Ra’es Hadomi Timor Oan (RHTO) agreed to implement a Ready Disaster project (DRP) in eight municipalities.
CITL Country Director Peter Goodfellow said Disaster READY focuses on inclusive community-based disaster risk management to ensure that people with disabilities, women, and children are involved in disaster planning and that their different needs are being met.
“CITL stands firm to support RHTO in its Disaster Ready Project to build houses for people with disabilities to stay safe during disasters,” Peter Goodfellow, told a reporter in Bairopite wednesday.
Goodfellow added that CITL always observes the real problems that happen in Timor-Leste, in particular the natural disasters issues, adding that by witnessing the conditions after the natural disaster, “CITL decided to support RHTO in building houses for people with disabilities together with the Australian Humanitarian Partnership,”
At the same time, RHTO executive director Joazinto Dos Santos said today is a good time for RHTO to get more support for CITL partnering with AHP, RHTO believes this project is useful to provide more assistance to people living in disabling conditions to live in a safe and comfortable place during a disaster situation.
“Persons with disabilities are most vulnerable to damage during the disaster, therefore we believe that this project is very helpful for people with disabilities to stay safe and comfortable during a disaster,” said Santos.
This is the second project of CITL and AHP:” In this second project we will build ten houses for people with disabilities, the houses will be completed with bathrooms, toilets, kitchens, drying areas, bedrooms, and others,”
According to Santos, the project will be implemented in eight municipalities including Aileu, Viqueque, Lautem, Bobonaro, RAEO Oe-cusse, Ermera, Liquca, and Covalima.
The project is implemented annually and is funded by the USD 48,000 Australian Humanitarian Partnership and is led by Care International Timor-Leste.
So far, the first project has been implemented in 2017. In the project, CITL and RHTO have built 10 houses for persons with disabilities.
