DILI, 24 august 2022 (TATOLI)— The president of the National Parliament of Timor-Leste, Aniceto Longuinhos Guterres Lopes meets the President of the House of Representatives Indonesia, Puan Maharani, both agreed to cooperate in the area of parliamentary protocol media.
The agreement was made during the visit of The President of the National Parliament of Timor-Leste, Aniceto Longuinhos Guterres Lopes, and his entourage to Jakarta, Indonesia.
“The visit of Guterres to Indonesia to collaborate in the fields of media and parliamentary protocol. The goal is to further establish friendly relations between the two National Parliaments,” the statement said.
It is also stated that the two parliamentary leaders discussed reviewing the cooperation that had been accomplished by the two countries, including cooperation in the economic sector.
During the meeting, the obstacles faced by the two countries were also discussed to find a way out and ensure cultural relations between the two.
The discussed issues include student visas as well as the issue of missing heroes during the national liberation process which have not been found.
Meanwhile, Puan Maharani, in her statement said that a number of important things were discussed in the meeting including the Bilateral Investment Treaty.
“The parliament encourages the two countries to establish a ‘Bilateral Investment Treaty’ to create a more conducive investment climate and encourage more Indonesian investment in Timor-Leste,” said Puan after receiving a visit from the Speaker of the Parliament of the Republic of Timor-Leste Aniceto Guterres Lopes at the Parliament Complex, Jakarta, Tuesday.
Puan’s proposal begins with the data submitted that the value of Indonesia’s investment in Timor-Leste currently reaches $818 million US dollars. Investments were made in the banking, oil, gas, and telecommunications sectors.
