DILI august 25, 2022 (TATOLI)–The State Secretariat for the Environment (SEA), Demetrio do Amaral de Carvalho said Caltech Company has been supporting the government in the management of one ton of plastic waste every day.

“We have a company that works on recycling and they can manage one ton of plastic waste every day,” Demetrio do Amaral de Carvalho told Tatoli exclusively in Bebora.

Caltech recycles a wide variety of products and materials such as Paper, cardboard, ferrous metals, wood, bottles, and any plastic products, and explores new technologies and processes to enable it to continue to expand its recycling capabilities.

This recycled product itself produces a variety of pavers, bricks, building blocks, and pavement units. The company is also investing in developing processes that allow communities in other countries to recycle their own waste on-site.

It explained that currently, Caltech will bring a new recycling machine to Timor-Leste that can recycle up to four tons of plastic per day or more.

“What Caltech doing is to motivate other companies to deal with plastic waste as well,” he said.

He informed that the Government through the Ministry of Planning and Regions (MPO) has organized a board meeting on investment potential from European Union (EU) banks to implement a Returns System where if there are plastic or aluminum cans, will be processed inside the machine to produce the money.

” One bottle costs 0.10 cents, meaning if we recycle ten bottles get $1, this is to apply the principle of Extended Producer Responsibility because producers use plastic to sell goods and this plastic must return to the manufacturer,” he explained

But Amaral said this was still under discussion at the pre-feasibility study stage, meaning the government needed to reconsider before deciding to invest.
