ASEAN Secretary-General receives BCTL Governor at the ASEAN Headquarters

DÍLI, 30 July 2026 (TATOLI) – Secretary-General of ASEAN, Dr. Kao Kim Hourn, on Thursday received the Governor of the Banco Central de Timor-Leste (BCTL), Hélder Lopes, at the ASEAN Headquarters/ASEAN Secretariat in Jakarta.

The meeting was their second this year, following their first on 19 May in Dili, when Dr. Kao paid a courtesy visit to the BCTL’s headquarters in Díli.

“During the meeting, they exchanged views on advancing ASEAN’s priorities on regional financial integration, payments connectivity, financial inclusion, sustainable finance, and institutional capacity development,” said in a statement.

During their first meeting, the Secretary-General outlined ASEAN’s priorities for ASEAN Community-building and regional integration, including Timor-Leste’s full integration into the regional bloc.

Discussions also highlighted regional initiatives aimed at strengthening cooperation in the areas of economy, investment, trade, and connectivity, which are considered essential for fostering a stronger and more resilient regional community.
