President Ramos-Horta attends Vanuatu’s 46th Independence Day Celebrations

DILI, 30 July 2026 (TATOLI) – The President of the Republic, Jose Ramos-Horta, on Thursday, attended the official national flag-raising ceremony at Independence Park in Port Vila to mark the 46th Independence Anniversary of the Republic of Vanuatu.

The President stood alongside other distinguished regional leaders, including Papua New Guinea’s Prime Minister James Marape, to witness this historic milestone and show solidarity with the people of Vanuatu.

The President’s participation in the ceremony capped off the official agenda of his historic State Visit, which began on July 28.

Throughout the visit, President Ramos-Horta held high-level meetings with Vanuatu’s leadership—including President Nikenike Vurobaravu and Prime Minister Jotham Napat—and witnessed the signing of key bilateral instruments, notably a General Cooperation Agreement and a Visa Waiver Agreement for diplomatic, official, and service passport holders.

This celebratory event reaffirmed the deep-rooted historical bonds, solidarity, and shared self-determination struggles that unite Timor-Leste and Vanuatu.

It also spotlighted the growing partnership between Timor-Leste and Pacific Island states, underscoring their joint commitment to promoting regional peace, climate resilience, and sustainable development on the global stage.
