CRS provides various support to the communities in five municipalities

DÍLI, 01 de Setembro de 2022 (TATOLI) – A Catholic Relief Services (CRS) working together with the Timor-Leste’s Catholic Church to provide support to the community in the municipalities of Baucau, Bobonaro, Ermera, Lospalos, and Viqueque. 

This support is completed through programs including assisting the productivity of agricultural practices, more nutritious eating habits, hygiene practices, and even values ​​that are conducive to peace.

The beneficiaries of the CRS program in 2021 were 5,414 people, this number refers to the most vulnerable people. 

“This program helps families to improve their household economy and family nutrition by encouraging vegetable cultivation, proper use of fertilizers, and more professional market access. CRS is still raising awareness about how to communicate peacefully between family members to avoid violence,” CRS National Director Yane Tamonob Pinto told Tatoli in Bebora.

Pinto said that the CRS activity involved the Government using rural extension workers linked to the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries.

According to Pinto, since the mortality rate of tuberculosis disease continued alarming, CRS also has a program that focuses on raising awareness of tuberculosis prevention involving the Ministry of Health.

Director Pinto said, so far CRS spends approximately US$700,000 per year for the implementation of this project and also has received support from the United State International Development Agency (USAID), the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, and the Global Fund.
