DILI, 07 september 2022 (TATOLI)- Timor-Leste officially conducted the 2022 population census in the entire territory of Timor-Leste.
The Directorate General of Statistics (DGE) under the Ministry of Finance, Elias dos Santos said the census will be conducted in 12 municipalities and Oe-Cusse RAEOA.
“The team has started the data collection since september 5 in all municipalities, however, today they will start to collect the data in Dili municipalities and started from Metinaro,” said Director
General of Statistics, Elias dos Santos, to Tatoli, in Caicoli, Dili.
To ensure all the residents participate in the population census and are completely implemented, DGE signed agreements with telecommunications companies including Timor Telecom, Telekomcel, and Telemor to provide a message for residents to participate in the population census.
“For 2022 data collection we adopt the technology by using android tables to conduct interviews and data collection while the interview questions focus on education, health, the economy, and the number of family members,”
According to Santos residents can send a message to the operator to forward the message to the enumerator to conduct an interview.
“The data collected will be conducted for 3 months and the preliminary result will be submitted in November 2022,”
So far, The previous population census in Timor-Leste was conducted in 2015 with the total population residing in the country was 1,183,643, while the number composed of Sex ratio (male/100 female) was 103.2; Population Density (km2) 79.3; the Annual Pop Growth Rate 2.1%; the percentage of urban population was 29.5% and the number of foreigners was 8,520 (0.72%).
