DILI, 08 september 2022 ( TATOLI)- Nothern Territory (NT) Government, the Hon Paul Kirby MLA, Minister for Bussiness, Job and Training with his delegation today meet the Secretary State for Vocational and Employment (SEFOPE), Alarico do Rosario to discuss the sending of Timorese workers to work in Australia Northern Territory, Darwin.
Minister Paul Kirby MLA, said today’s meeting is to share the information to SEFOPE about sending Timorese workers to Australia.
“I bring the business people to meet the Government’s SEFOPE to talk about the mechanism of sending Timorese workers to work in Australia, especially in NT. We wish for more Timorese workers because Timorese workers have been performing very well in Australia, therefore we wish to work together with SEFOPE to send more workers to Australia in the near future,” NT Minister Paul Kirby MLA, told reporters at the office of SEFOPE, Cai- Coli Dili on thursday.
Paul Kirby MLA, Added that many farm owners in NT are available to receive the Timorese workers to work on their farm, saying, therefore, NT Government and SEFOPE will work together to facilitate Timorese workers to work in NT and other places in Australia.
“This meeting is the stage of consultation. We share the information with them about the mechanism of how to send the Timorese workers to NT- Australia. SEFOPE is willing to send workers to work in farming in NT- Australia based on their demand,” said Alarico do Rosario.
Rosario, said following the data from SEPFOPE, over 15,000 Timorese workers have their names on the database system. The number is available at in anytime to work in Australia.
So far over 2500 Timorese workers had worked in Australia from 2012 up to 2022.
