DILI, 15 september 2022 (TATOLI) – Timor-Leste’s Foreign Minister, Adaljiza Albertina Xavier Reis Magno will represent Timor-Leste to attend the State Funeral for Japanese former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, which will be held at Nippon Budokan, Japan, on September 27 2022.
The Government entrusted the representation of Timor-Leste to Minister Magno, following the invitation from the Government of Japan.
“During that period, Minister Adaljiza Magno will attend the State Funeral Ceremony as well as participate in an occasion hosted by Prime Minister of Japan, Fumio Kishida, where he will meet the attendees to express his gratitude,” said in a statement released on thursday.
Aside from these two main ceremonies, Minister Adaljiza Magno is expected to meet with high-level officials from Japan and other potential stakeholders.
Shinzo Abe, 67, died after being shot while giving a speech during a political campaign two days ahead of a national election.
The funeral of Shinzo Abe took place on july 12, where thousands of the mourners were present to pay tribute and respect.
Abe’s State Funeral ceremony will take place at Tokyos Nippon Budokan, where many Heads of Government will attend the funeral. Nippon Budokan is a large venue that was used for Japan’s last state funeral for former prime minister, Shigeru Yoshida, in 1967.
Shinzo Abe was a Japanese politician who served as Prime Minister of Japan and President of the Liberal Democratic Party from 2006 to 2007 and again from 2012 to 2020. Abe served as the longest-serving prime minister in Japanese history.
