DILI, 17 september 2022 ( TATOLI)- The President of The National Council of Islamic in Timor – Leste, (CONISTIL), Pascoal Siddiq Lemorai, said the Muslim community in Timor – Leste will offer fund donations to help the victims of the flood disaster in Pakistan, after the country was hit by the flood in the 28 of August 2022.
“The Muslim community in Timor – Leste collected the fund to help the flood victim in Pakistan, who ware suffering after the country was hit by the flash flood on Augost 28, this year,” the President of CONISTIL, Siddiq Lemorai told TATOLI in his office Mosque, Kampung Alor Dili on saturday.
Siddiq Lemorai explained that the fund is collected from all the members of Muslims in Timor-Leste after Friday prayer: “So far we have collected the fund in every Friday prayer intending to help our brothers and sisters who were affected by the floods in Pakistan,” he said.
“We will announce the amount we collect and further will cooperate with the Government of Timor – Leste, through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation ( MoFAC) to transfer the fund to Muslim and non-Muslim brothers and sisters who are the victims of the flood disaster in Pakistan in the near future,” he concluded.
Previously Pakistan was hit by flash floods that killed more than 1,000 people. The country’s economy is also expected to be affected because flooding has the potential to reduce agricultural output.
As reported by Euronews on Monday (28/8/2022), heavy floods caused by heavy rains have washed away villages and crops. Search and rescue teams supported by the Pakistani military are trying to evacuate residents from safe relief camps and provide food for thousands of displaced Pakistanis.
Pakistan’s National Disaster Management Authority reported the death toll since the rainy season began in June 2022 to reach 1,061 after new deaths were reported in various provinces.
