DILI, 19 september 22022 (TATOLI)- The President of the Republic (PR), José Ramos Horta, today held a meeting with the Prime Minister, Taur Matan Ruak to introduce the state’s speech and hear opinions before leaving for the United States (US), on 21 september 2022.
The meeting was held this morning, at the residence of Prime Minister, Taur Matan Ruak where PR Horta took the initiative to visit the government leader himself.
“I am grateful to visit the Prime minister in his residence. I intended to come along and talk with PM. Regarding my leaving days to New York on Wednesday. I wish to hear the opinion of the head of Government for my speech in New York,” said President of the Republic of Timor-Leste, José Ramos Horta at PM residence, Farol, on monday.
He added that the speech has been prepared and would like to notify the Prime Minister because the speech is the state’s speech. It was prepared in consultation with the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation (MNAEC).
“What I suppose to speak at the UN General Assembly (United Nations) meeting are national issues based on what Timor-Leste is facing, such as the prevention of COVID-19,” he said.
According to Horta, TL managed to control COVID-19 well despite not having enough experience and the actions taken by the Government also had an impact on the social economy, especially on the lower middle class.
In addition, State Leaders will also convey a message about the war in Ukraine that has had an international impact, since Timor-Leste is currently under preparation to access the ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) and WTO (World Trade Organization).
“The PM grants the freedom to President to deliver the speeches but as a State Leader, I don’t represent myself, what I say represents this country, the speech will explain Timor-Leste’s report to the international community,” said PR.
For him, TL has achieved several things, such as ensuring the country’s security without any religious or civil conflicts, having great tolerance, and having a politics of reconciliation.
PR Horta, will leave for New York on 21 September 2022, to participate in the UN General Assembly meeting and will make a speech on 23 September 2022 and also deliver a speech in a special section of the Peace Building Commission on 26 September 2022 before returning to Timor-Leste on 29 September 2022.
