South Korea Embassy and Gov’t launch first Academic Sports Centre in Dili

DILI, 07 october 2022 ( TATOLI)- The Government of South Korea together with the Korea International Cooperation Agency ( KOICA) through its Embassy and the Government of Timor – Leste through the Ministry of Education Youth and Sport ( MEoYS) and the Secretary State of Youth and Sport ( SSYS) today launched the first milestone of Sports Academic Centre in Becora, Dili.

Ambassador of South Korea in Timor – Leste, Kim Jeong- ho, when delivering his speech said, South Korea, had committed to help Timor – Leste in many areas including the activities of the sport during this time.

“Our support will never end to assist Timor – Leste because South Korea wishes Timor – Leste, same as the other countries in the world. To continue help Timor – Leste, South Korea, through KOICA work together with SSYS and today the first milestone of integrated the construction of Academic Centre Sport in Becora, the football field of Bintang Bidau Toko Baru, the field football of Kampung Alor and the field football Comoro Malinamuk will be constructed in this year until 2024 which is fully financed by the Government of South Korea through the KOICA in Timor – Leste,” the Ambassador of South Korea Kim Jeong- ho, told reporters in Becora, Dili on friday.

Ambassador South Korea, Kim Jeong- ho, added the objective of building an academic sports center and a field of football is to bring sports closer to the community, besides will train the young Timorese, through football sport, to compete for the football game in the international event.

Therefore the Government of South Korea urged the selected company to accelerate the construction process base on the Bill of Quantity ( BOQ) to ensure the quality of these projects. 

The Minister of Education Youth and Sport, Armindo Maia, on behalf of the Government of Timor – Leste, appreciated the support of South Korea’s Government, and KOICA, for implementing these projects, and today the first milestone can be realized.

” I wish to thank the Government of South Korea and KOICA on behalf of Timor-Leste’s Government for the construction of the Academic Sports Center hope that this support will help develop Timor-Leste’s football sport in the future,” he said.

Maia explained that this project is the first project that integrated with the office, Dormitory, and two football fields while KOICA and the winning company will also build three other football fields called ‘Bintang field football ‘in Bidau Toko Baru, Kampung Baru, and Malinamuk, Comoro. 

“We hope that these projects will be completed based on the contract duration to be able to use and develop the football in Timor – Leste,” he said.

The Secretary of State of Youth and Sport, Abrao Saldanha, said these projects are realized through the cooperation between the SSYS and KOICA, in Timor – Leste, therefore, all the construction of the integrated Academic Sports Centre including 5 field football fields will be controlled by KOICA in Timor – Leste.

” These projects will be constructed by the Company of CHL Industries Timor- Leste with the duration of 18 months,” he said.

At the same place the Director of the Company of CHL Industries Timor- Leste, Jocelino Belmarco Alves, thanked the Government of Timor – Leste and the Government of South Korea through the KOICA for entrusting his company to be responsible for the projects.

“We received the project through SSYS and KOICA with a total budget of $ 2.4 million, so we promise that these projects will be finalized based on the duration of the contract and our company also ensure the quality of these projects base on the BOQ,hopfully there is no obstacle until we handover these project to the Government of Timor – Leste in 2024, of March,” he said.
