Timor-Leste and Vanuatu sign key cooperation and visa agreements
VANUATU, 30 July 2026 (TATOLI) – President of the Republic, José Ramos-Horta held a bilateral meeting with Vanuatu’s Prime Minister Jotham Napat on Wednesday to discuss sustainable development, climate resilience, and regional security.
The talks took place during the President’s historic first State Visit, reaffirming the deep solidarity and shared history between the two Small Island Developing States.
Following the high-level discussions, the two nations signed a Framework Agreement for Development Cooperation and a Visa Exemption Agreement.
These landmark documents were signed by Timor-Leste’s Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs, Jesuína Maria Ferreira Gomes, and Vanuatu’s Foreign Minister, Marc Ati, establishing a formal mechanism for strategic institutional collaboration.
The newly established visa waiver will facilitate the free movement of citizens, significantly boosting economic, cultural, and human relations between the two Pacific partners.
President Ramos-Horta will continue his visit by joining national leaders and citizens on July 30 to celebrate Vanuatu’s 46th Independence Day.
