DILI, 12 october 2022 ( TATOLI) -The Australian Embassy in Timor – Leste, through the Australia Pacific Training Coalition ( APTC) program together with the Secretary of State of Vocational Training and Employment ( SEFOPE), awarded certification in the International Skills Training ( IST) to 25 graduates.

Janelle Chapman, Executive Director, APTC, said that the APTC program can be realized based on the initiative of the Australian Government through the APTC program, working together with the Government of Timor – Leste through SEFOPE, the aim of facilitating the International Skills Training consisting of IST Trainer Courses and IST Trainers & Assessors Course.

“Graduates of this course have gained foundation skills, knowledge, and capability to help shape professional practice in vocational education within a training organization, enterprise, or industry. This International Skills Training was conducted for the first time in Timor – Leste, and today we are awarding certification to the first 25 graduates, hopefully, they will develop their businesses and become a trainer to provide IST to other Timorese in developing businesses to contribute to the economic diversification in Timor – Leste,” the Executive Director, APTC, Janelle Chapman told TATOLI at the Hotel Timor, Colmera Dili, on wednesday.

Executive Director, APTC, Janelle Chapman on this occasion highly appreciates the first 25 graduates who have completed the IST Trainer Course and IST Trainer & Assessor Course, hoping that this IST will be useful for Timor – Leste’s national development.

Secretary of State for Vocational Training and Employment, Alarico do Rosario, said this program is very important, adding that it is the first time International Courses conducted in Timor – Leste: “SEFOPE will continue to support this program to be continued in Timor – Leste and provide international standard capacity building to increasing the knowledge of entrepreneurs and Timorese to develop business at the same time to ensure the economic sustainable in Timor – Leste,” said Rosario.

“I thanked the Australian Government for supporting Timor – Leste in various sectors during this time. SEFOPE requests to continue the APTC program to ensure Timor – Leste’s ability to do business in Timor – Leste to be able to compete internationally,”

Program Manager Manuel Guimaraes from the Australian Embassy in Timor – Leste said, apart from helping them develop their businesses this program also helps graduates to get jobs in in Timor – Leste and overseas.

“The Australian Embassy hopes that the 25 graduates will develop their business activities well,”

At the same place, a representative of IST graduates, Norberto da Costa, appreciates the Australian Government and SEFOPE for the opportunity offered to them to participate in the training. 

“On behalf of the first ITS graduates, we thanked the Government of Australia and SEFOPE for facilitating this APTC program, we are proud because it is very useful for our business activities, and we hope that ITS will be continued in Timor – Leste in the future,” he concluded.
