UNDP – SSCP held a workshop on Multi-Hazard Mapping to the PAM

DILI, 26 october 2022 ( TATOLI) – the United Nations Development Programme ( UNDP) and the State Secretary for Civil Protection ( SSCP) today held the workshop on Multi Hard Mapping to the President of Municipal Authority ( PAM) across Timor – Leste.

The Secretary of State for Civil Protection, Joaquim Gusmão dos Reis Martins said the purpose of this workshop is to introduce and socialize the result of multi-hard mapping to the President of the Municipality and the related institutions.

” Today SSCP together with its partner UNDP socialize the result of the Multi-Hazard Mapping (MHM) to the PAM and related institutions, to identify the disaster risk areas, the MHM also serves as a guideline to define the planning with resilient to face the climate alteration in Timor -Leste,” the Secretary State for Civil Protection Joaqim Gusmão told reporters in Timor Plaza, Dili on wednesday.
Gusmão stressed that the creation of this Multi-Hazard Mapping is very crucial adding that it will be instantaneously used to identify the risk areas that are prone to natural disasters such as landslides, earthquakes, floods, hurricanes, forest fires, heavy rains, and other natural disaster risks, thus being able to monitor quickly in saving the human lives and can be evacuated early: “We hope that this Multi-Hazard Mapping will be useful for Timor – Leste to detect natural disasters early to save humans and other living things,”

“I thanked the UNDP on behalf of the Government for facilitating the MHM. I hope that UNDP will continue to work together to provide training on the use of Multi-Hazard Mapping to SSCP staff and related institutions,” he said.

At the same place, UNDP Resident Representative Munkhtuya Altangerel said that Multi-Hazard Mapping is used dynamically in applications and is easy to detect the risk of natural disasters in Timor – Leste.

“We can manage the map to detect the natural disasters for early prevention,” she said.

Altangerel added that UNDP will continue to support Timor – Leste in facilitating the Climate Hazard Mapping, risk assessment, and development of a risk model for Timor – Leste under the Safe Guarding Rural Communities and their Physical Assets from Climate-Induced Disaster in Timor – Leste.
