The President of the National Parliament, Aniceto Longuinohos Guterres said most Timorese women can be good leaders, saying therefore there is no way for Timorese to discriminate on the gender balance, especially women being leaders and ready to lead.

“Parliament prioritizes and empowering women to become leaders, while the Parliament is also very proud to have 26 women in parliament, we continue to encourage gender equality for women to become leaders in the future,” he said.

Guterres reminded that the participation of Timorese women during the struggle was very significant for this country’s independence.

Meanwhile, Deputy Prime Minister, Armanda Berta thanked all the women and said it is a very special moment for Timorese women to commemorate the 46th women’s anniversary: “I thank all Timorese women and I am proud to celebrate this special day with you all, “

“Many people underestimate the ability of women, but to ensure the development of the country, women’s participation is very much needed, so Timorese women have made a great contribution to the development of this country,” She said.
