DÍLI, 09 november 2022 (TATOLI) – The Government of Timor-Leste has amended the decree-law on household allowance. With this amendment, only households with incomes below US$500 per month are entitled to the US$200 family subsidy.
Minister of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, Fidelis Manuel Leite Magalhães explained that the government decided to alter Decree-Law No. 37/2022 of may 25 after considering the suggestions from the President of the Republic, José Ramos Horta.
“This subsidy will be paid only to families with incomes below US$500. Families will be required to fill out a form to have their income confirmed,” he said at the Government Palace.
Magalhaes said that with the amendment of the decree-law, all families registered until february 28, 2022, are entitled to receive the subsidy.
The household allowance is considered to be the 13 months’ salary which will be paid between november 16 and december 31.
“This subsidy aims to support families with the celebration of the end-of-year festivities,” he said.
The Government has allocated $700 million for the payment of the subsidy.
According to data from the Ministry of State Administration, more than 400,000 Timorese families will receive the subsidy.
