DILI, 10 november 2022 (TATOLI) – Acting Executive Director of the Mahein Foundation (MF) Abel Amaral calls on young people, especially the members of the ritual and martial arts groups to unite in order to contribute to peace and stability in the country.
“On behalf of the Mahein Foundation, I would like to call on young Timorese to avoid violence and embrace peace and unity. You have to stop attacking and killing each other because we are one people and brothers,” Amaral told TATOLI at his office in Dili on thursday.
He urged the Timorese youth to resolve their disagreements through dialogue: “We must contribute to peace and stability to support the government in building the country”.
Amaral condemned the violent act and murders committed by ritual and martial arts groups in Dare, Dili. “I would like to call on the Timorese National Police (PNTL) to strengthen the security control in order to prevent the young people from committing killing and other related violent acts,” Amaral appealed.
He said criminals must be seriously punished for their acts of killing others.
FM has recommended that the Government needed to involve the Timorese youth in national development projects to prevent youth from committing crimes.
“Involving the youth in development projects would keep them busy and concentrate on work instead of committing crimes,” he added.
The FM also urges local authorities and the Community Police to cooperate with the PNTL to ensure stability in each neighborhood.
