DILI, 11 November 2022 (TATOLI) – Timor-Leste officially handed over a set of equipment and materials for the voters’ registration in Guinea-Bissau.
According to a statement from the Office of the Prime Minister of Guinea-Bissau, Nuno Gomes Nabiam, the equipment was handed over by Acilino Branco, the Timorese Director of the Mission to Support the Electoral Registration Process, to the heads of the electoral administration, in the presence of the Chief Executive of Guinea-Bissau.
“From the list of materials and equipment handed over to our electoral administration, we are pleased to highlight the importance of the handover of the electoral database, computer equipment, and one million registration slips to start the voter registration within the electoral calendar,” he said in the statement.
The Guinean Government has awarded certificates of recognition and gratitude to Timor-Leste’s Mission to Support the Electoral Registration Process in Guinea Bissau.
“On behalf of the Government, the President, and the Guinean people, I thank Timor-Leste for this important support for the country to run the elections,” said Prime Minister Nabiam.
The document explains that this symbolic gesture of recognition is the culmination of the intense work done in the last 30 days by the Timor-Leste technicians with the Guinea technicians, allowing the comprehensive and inclusive voter registration work to begin immediately.
The support was in response to the request made by the Prime Minister of Guinea-Bissau to his Timorese counterpart, Taur Matan Ruak.
Prime Minister Nabiam presented the request during the swearing-in ceremony of the President of the Republic, José Ramos Horta, and the commemoration of the 20th anniversary of the Restauration of Independence of Timor-Leste, on may 20, 2022, in Dili.
The mission will support voter registration in Guinea-Bissau until november 15. The team is made up of eight members, including one from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation (MoFAC), three from the Ministry of State Administration (MAE), and four from the Technical Secretariat for Electoral Administration (STAE).
