President Ramos-Horta highlights economic vision and peacebuilding at Horasis Gathering in Singapore

DÍLI, 04 September 2026 (TATOLI) – President of the Republic, José Ramos-Horta participated in a special dialogue on September 4 at the Horasis Visionary Circle 2026 in Singapore.

Chaired by UK House of Lords Member Baron Woolley of Woodford, the session explored leadership in times of global uncertainty, democratic resilience, and Timor-Leste’s strategic transition toward long-term prosperity.

Reflecting on Timor-Leste’s progress since independence, President Ramos-Horta highlighted the nation’s prudent economic management including low national debt, sovereign wealth fund diversification, and major investments in education and healthcare.

The head of state emphasized Timor-Leste’s role as a stable, democratic bridge between Southeast Asia and the Pacific, anchored in a foreign policy of being “friends of everybody and enemies of no one.”

Accompanied by Vice Prime Minister Francisco Kalbuadi Lay, the President also addressed urgent challenges such as climate change, the necessity of proactive conflict prevention, and the country’s ongoing green energy transition, inviting global business leaders and investors to partner with Timor-Leste in building a diversified and sustainable future.
