Ruak attends first congress of ‘Movimentu Amigu Taur Matan Ruak’

DILI, 13 november 2022 (TATOLI) – President of the People’s Liberation Party (PLP) Taur Matan Ruak attended the first national congress of the Taur Matan Ruak Friendship Movement (Movimentu Amigu Taur Matan Ruak).

The establishment of the movement was aimed at supporting the People’s Liberation Party to achieve a victory in the upcoming parliamentary elections. 

In his speech, Ruak said that MATMR structure will work closely with PLP to strengthen its role in communities.

“Everyone has the right to affiliate with any political party or join any organization to ensure the development of the country,” Ruak said at the CNE conference hall, in Dili.

He encouraged the members of the movement to cultivate the spirit of nationalism among them to serve Timor-Leste: “We should all work hard and work together to support PLP to contribute to peace and stability of the country.”

Ruak reiterated that every MATMR member is encouraged to participate and contribute to helping PLP achieve victory in the upcoming general elections.

The first elected president of the AMTMR, Martinho Emiliano Gusmão, said the creation of the AMTMR is to strengthen the party, especially within communities: “Our role is to support PLP to achieve a victory in the 2023 general elections.”

He said within three months MATMR had chosen 300 coordinators across the country.

To date, MATMR has 44,000 members in 12 municipalities, including RAEOA.
