ETDA distributes certifications to 26 young Timorese to be sent to Brunei Darussalam

DILI, 17 november 2022 (TATOLI)– The East Timor Development Agency (ETDA) distributed certificates to 26 Timorese youths after attending one year of training on hospitality and agriculture at ETDA.

“Today we graduated a new Timor Leste worker, we added a number of workers with skills to answer the 100 workers who will be sent to Brunei this year” EDTL Director, Jan Mok told Journalists, at the EDTL office, Hudi Laran, this Thursday.

Meanwhile Secretary of State for Youth and Sports (SoSYS), Abrão Saldanha said Timor Leste’s youth needed more training to improve their skills to respond to job opportunities in national and international markets.

“Timor-Leste’s youth must gain more knowledge to improve their capacities and skills to compete for job opportunities. Most Timorese think that to get a job, you have to pass formal education. But people can be placed if they have skills, not only attending formal education, the real key is human personality,” he said.

The Timor-Leste Ambassador to Brunei Darussalam, Abel Gutteres encouraged all East Timorese youth to continue to develop their skills and knowledge.

“During my mandate, I will coordinate with companies in Brunei to invest in hospitality, tourism, agriculture, and others,” he concluded

So far ETDA will deploy 100 Timorese youths to work in the hotel and agriculture sectors in Brunei Darussalam,” he said.
